Project Background
To reduce flood damage in the Clear Creek watershed,
the Galveston District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
has been engaged in a complete reevaluation of flood risk management
opportunities along Clear Creek.
The USACE has recommended a project for Clear Creek in the past.
When citizens and local sponsors asked the USACE to
consider changes to the proposed project, the Agency was required to evaluate whether
suggested changes fit within the scope of the Federally funded plan or if they were so
significant that a complete reevaluation of the entire project was warranted.
The USACE reviewed the changes in 1998. They made the judgment that suggested
changes and enhancements constituted major differences in the scope of the project
and that a reevaluation would be required.
A study, called a General Reevaluation Report or 'GRR', is currently underway. Three agencies representing constituents within
the watershed are co-sponsoring the study: The Harris County Flood Control District,
Galveston County and Brazoria Drainage District Number Four.
Progress Report
The USACE has identified the NED Alternative for the Clear Creek flood risk management Project. This alternative
is the result of a comprehensive engineering, economic and environmental analysis and community input. To review the
list of measures included in the Preliminary NED Alternative, please download the newsletter and presentation
