Public Meeting Update
The Galveston District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held two public "open houses" in the Clear Creek watershed during February 2004 with more than 200 citizens in attendance. The purpose of these "open houses" was to update the public on the status of the Clear Creek flood risk management Study. The Study Team performing the reevaluation of flood risk management solutions for the Clear Creek watershed provided a project status report and presented findings on baseline conditions developed for the study. More than 40 displays illustrating the project's history, the Corps Planning Process, examples of flood risk management measures and ecosystem restoration measures currently being evaluated were also set up for citizens to view during the open house. Staff members from the Corps and the local sponsor organizations were available for one-on-one discussion and to answer any questions. Citizens could also view a short video presentation outlining the project's history and current status. A copy of this DVD video is currently available to the public at no charge. Several citizens submitted written comments during and following each open house. Citizens were also encouraged to take comment cards to friends and neighbors who were unable to attend the meeting. The official comment period for this meeting ended on March 26, 2004.
